Contributors & ownership
Total100%Balanced ✓
This document is a record of the songwriter/composition ownership shares stated by the parties named above. Diamond Release provides this record only — it is not legal advice, not a copyright registration, and not a publishing or performing-rights registration. Each party is responsible for registering their works and shares with their publisher and performing-rights organization.
How a split sheet works
- It covers the composition — the song itself, not the recording.
- Everyone who contributed to writing or composing appears, with a share, and signs.
- Shares must total exactly 100%; anything else is an unfinished sheet.
- Each writer then registers their own share with their publisher and PRO.
- Sign it the day the song is written, not the week of release.
Common questions
- What is a split sheet?
- A split sheet is a short written record of who wrote a song and what percentage of the composition each writer owns. It is signed by everyone in the room and used later when registering the work with publishers and performing-rights organizations.
- When should you sign a split sheet?
- The same day the song is written, before anyone leaves the session. Splits are cheap to agree while everyone is happy and expensive to negotiate once the song starts earning.
- Do the percentages have to add up to 100%?
- Yes. A split sheet allocates the whole composition, so the songwriter shares must total exactly 100%. This generator flags any sheet that does not balance.
- Is a split sheet a legal contract or a copyright registration?
- No. It is a record of what the parties stated they agreed to. It is not legal advice, not a copyright registration, and not a PRO registration — each writer still registers their own share.
